The basic principle is siphon. You created a great method to fill the pipe without air from river to the discharge. The obvious reason why the drum collapsed is because it outputs faster than the input creating a vacuum inside the drum. If you make the input and output pipes the same size longer output line and higher discharge height it will solve the problem. The same thing can happen if the input line get clogged so you have to avoid debris from entering.

I believe you should have left the tube that drains the water from the river full and covered, and opened it a little after you opened the outlet valve. Excellent video!!!

Ive used a basic controlled siphon set up a number of times. Cork both ends of your hose. Input end cork has a pull cable. Insert corked hose, FILL THE HOSE from output end, put stop in. Output end LOWER than input end... Pull corks simultaneously. Boom instant start siphoning, no sucking petrol vapour His drum and pipe set up is same principle. A controlled siphon.

Я так понимаю, что он закачивает воздух чтобы создать давление, которое должно выдавливать воду из системы в сторону крана. А чтоб она не погла в таз, то стоит клапан. Но поскольку таз ниже, а кран выше, клапан всегда будет закрыт. Что еще я упустил?
